Contracts can be minefields of our own making

Standard contract terms are a good place to start from - after all, we don't want to write a new document every time we look at a new project. However, hanging onto every clause just "because" is a sure recipe for conflict.
Contracts are a living document that should reflect the needs of each project. If we start from the premise that we want a successful outcome, not only to our negotiations, but also in developing long-term relationships with our negotiating partners, our approach can be more flexible and collegial without sacrificing our goals.
